An Oak Park man was walking into his apartment the night of Sept. 4 when he had a gun pressed to his head, and three men demanded to be let into his apartment on the 700 block of Carpenter Avenue in Oak Park.

For years, the Village of Oak Park has been laid-back in collecting local liquor taxes, says one veteran restaurant owner, basically trusting that business owners are being on the up-and-up. But Village Hall is changing its ways, and later this year will start auditing restaurants and retailers to make sure that they're being honest and paying their fair share.

Patrick Sugrue could have easily hopped a plane from Oak Park to New Orleans. He could have boarded a bus or hitched a ride. But instead, on an impulse, the 21-year-old Oak Parker decided to bike the roughly 930 miles to make it to his junior year of college.

The OPRF football team seems to have taken a cue from the Chicago Bears. The Huskies, who were highly touted in the preseason for their big and experienced offensive line much like the Bears, were unable to gain ground against Glenbard North on Friday night.
