Crystal Bowersox
Lee DeWyze

Idol minds were in FitzGerald's playground

Web Extra! Video

An alert reader alerted us to the fact that two of the three idol finalists, Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox (who should win just on her name alone), have at least one thing in common: performing at FitzGerald's Music Club in Berwyn.

You can hear DeWyze playing "So I'm Told" (Feb. 13, 2009) at the club on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9On8vvPr8Do or watch it below. Bowersox, meanwhile, according to a May 5 Chicago Tribune article ("Toledo pulling for homegrown 'American Idol' favorite") "went to the Toledo School for the Arts, then moved to Chicago at 17, where she busked and played open-mike nights as well at Uncommon Ground, FitzGerald's and the Friendly Tap in Berwyn - which started a tip jar in 2008 to help her move back to Ohio, where she gave birth to her son a year ago."

Maybe FitzGerald's can get DeWyze and Bowersox to come back for a return engagement. But first, the three remaining contestants, we're told, will be reduced to two.

Watch it at FitzGerald's on their 9 by 16-foot screen (followed by the Blackhawks game). Oak Parkers now have a rooting interest.
